Title: World of Weeping
Crossover Fandom: Torchwood
Pairing: James Wilson, Gregory House, Captain Jack Harkness, but with allusions to Wilson/Jack, Jack/Ianto
Rating: PG
Length: 25 700 words
Spoilers: Set during House Season 5 -- after "Birthmarks" but before "Last Resort." Set after Series 2 of Torchwood.
Summary: House is consulted by a secret organization led by a mysterious man who seems to know Wilson just a little bit too well for House's comfort.
Excerpt )

House knows that the two mysterious well-dressed men in Wilson's office are going to be trouble. However, the truth is far stranger than even House can guess. Ianto Jones and Jack Harkness are from Torchwood, a secret organization outside the government and beyond the police, devoted to keeping humanity safe from alien intervention. Their appearance brings up forgotten trauma from Wilson's past, and means a trip to Wales for both House and Wilson. And a strange series of deaths in Cardiff can be solved by only one person--House.

This tense mix of medical and supernatural mystery combines the best elements of both shows. [personal profile] mer_duff uses strong folklore elements and medical causes to create a case that takes both Torchwood and Princton Plainsborough's finest to solve. The dialogue is sharp, and true to both shows, the plot is fast-moving and nail-biting, and the mysterious deaths have a very real emotional effect on the characters. A moving exploration of Wilson's grief over Amber and friendship with House.

Title: Break Point
Author: [personal profile] mer_duff
Pairing: Gen: House, Wilson.
Rating: R
Length: 24 000 words
Spoilers: Takes place between "Human Error" and "Alone".
Summary: Wilson struggles to reconcile past and present in the aftermath of the Tritter investigation, while House just wants to understand.
Excerpt )

[personal profile] mer_duff has deepened the canonical world of House, MD with Break Point. The story delves into Wilson's past, evoking an amazing, fully fleshed-out backstory that works perfectly with the man Wilson has become. Break Point is a fascinating look at Wilson's family, and [personal profile] mer_duff creates excellent and believable OCs to show his family dynamics; his parents, his friends, and especially his brother, Michael, all come alive. House's motives for demanding to know more are unclear to Wilson at first, but they are simply one more way that House shows that he cares without ever saying so. The set up for the flashbacks--House's interrogation of Wilson, his incorrigible seeking for one last line that he cannot cross--is heartbreaking in its own way, and very satisfying. Break Point is a wonderful exploration of House and Wilson's friendship, and a profound and multilayered story.

I...wanted to do something a bit vague and abstract.... I really liked the description of Wilson "swallowing a sunset" in the early draft and the image of his hand reaching out for the drink just sort of stuck with me.

This is wonderful! The choice of music (it suits the mood in the story perfectly), the scene selections, the linking text.
